2022 Year in Review

It’s that time of year when I love looking back on the past 365 days analyzing what worked, what didn’t, celebrating milestones and goals achieved, and understanding what could have been done differently as other goals fell short. I hope this is insightful or helpful whether you find yourself in business or just celebrating another year gone by. This is my 2022 recap.

I tended to my personal life first

I always start with the personal side of things, because life and business are so intertwined, it’s hard not to mention what happened in the ‘life’ side of things. This year, out of any years in my recent life, was the most difficult in a lot of ways that I don’t want to get into here, but it was a real challenge. I would say that almost the complete first half of the year was spent making sure my wellbeing was on the right track. So with that said, I didn’t focus on my business or work towards any big goals like I thought I originally would. But that’s what happens when you have a challenging year - and that’s OK. I really think that so much of what we do as women entrepreneurs is to support our life and family so when things go sideways, it’s important to put your effort and attention where it needs to be for a while.

So that’s what I did for the first part of the year. It was nourishing, stretching, challenging, and healing all at the same time. I’m thankful that I was able to take the time I needed without worrying about how much I was making or how many clients I was signing.

Then we got pregnant in May(!) and my urgency muscle kicked into high gear knowing that I only had a short amount of time to get things set up so I could be an effective business owner and mom of two in the new year.

I joined a mastermind for support

This seems to be a reoccurring pattern for me; I join the Sell with Heart Mastermind the second part of the year. I’ve done this for the last 3 years and it’s been so beneficial and rewarding. In this instance, I knew I needed the support from my coach as I geared towards streamlining my business in new ways to prepare for a baby coming in the new year. And it was exactly what I needed.

Anna, my coach, has helped me so much and definitely pushed me to make beneficial changes in my business. And this year was no exception. I made so many big strides forward: in strategy, marketing, and mindset that will really set me up for reaching the goals I have for next year. I love being apart of this powerhouse group of women (and so many of them have become good friends), sharing where I’m at, being able to relate to the other girls, and getting tailored support in my business has been incredible.

Streamlining, systems, and outsourcing

There’s nothing like the impending deadline of a baby that makes you take deliberate actions and make necessary changes. Almost as soon as I found out I was pregnant I posted a job opening for a Designer to join my team. It’s so funny cause I was thinking about hiring a designer for such a long time but there was no urgency (thus, no action on my part)… until there was. I posted a job opening in the summer and hired my designer in August.

Since then she has been an incredible help and it’s been a big learning opportunity for me as I start to hand off parts of my client work. While I NEVER thought I would want to bring anyone else into my process, this has been a gamechanger - giving me time back, showing me that I don’t need to touch every single part of a project, and allowing me to get work done with less stress and overwhelm.

I also have gotten more clear on my project timelines and systems for client communications. While I have been an avid user and lover of my CRM Dubsado, this year I made even more changes and upgrades to my processes. Including getting firmer on my timeline, making the onboarding and offboarding process easier and more streamlined, and setting up an organization process to keep my clients and projects in order in Asana.

All these little changes have amounted to huge feelings of relief, security, and KNOWING that my service is well-thought out and easy for my clients to go through. I’m so excited about these changes and how it will make 2023 feel and also how it will impact my bottom line.

Got clear on sales actions and a plan to book out

While I know how to sell my services, sometimes I don’t know how to find new warm leads. And this was a major theme I came across in the summer going into the fall knowing I wanted to book out up until maternity but didn’t know where to find people.

Anna helped me get a plan in place that not only is absolutely doable but feels really good. I wrote all about my “booking out” plan in this Instagram post but basically it focuses on mindset, sales actions, connecting with new people, and opening up the conversation - like when I hear a potential client say “I don’t think I need a website,” I kindly question the belief. Making these small but massive changes has helped me book out in about 2 months and it shows me this is a rinse and repeat system for whenever I want to book more clients. It’s been so huge because I don’t feel like I’m “waiting for clients to come” I know I can go out there and make it happen for myself and that feels pretty empowering.

Clarity moving forward

Never have I ever felt so clear and grounded in where I am and where I want to go in the new year and it feels so good. My word for 2023 is Thrive and that’s what I want to do. I want to thrive in my personal life, in my business, my marriage, my parenting, and I know that it’s all possible. It took 2022 being a year of questioning how I’ve done things and making small but significant changes to get the results I want.

I have a whole list of goals for 2023 along with “new actions I’m going to take” and a calendar with a detailed plan of how I’ll achieve my goals. While I know not everything goes according to plan, it’s nice to have a really thoughtful and intentional plan for how I’ll get to the next level.

Before we look ahead, let’s look at some of the beautiful brands and websites that were created in 2022:

Maternity Leave: I plan to take a 3 month maternity leave when Baby Girl arrives and I’m really looking forward to taking that precious time to be with her and my family.

Big Plans but Open Hands: While I have so much I want to do and achieve, I’m approaching this year with a lot of grace and surrender, knowing while I have many plans, God may have a different idea so I want to stay open to all He has for me and trust that His ways are higher and better than mine.
