Feminine and Creative Office Makeover

Since I started my business back in 2016, my office has been in the same room of our house. A small, corner room with 2 windows, now next to the baby’s nursery.

I love having a dedicated office in the house because it really helps me mentally separate work from home– even when it feels the same! It’s just nice being able to turn off the lights, close the door, and be “done” with work for the day.

While my office used to inspire and be exciting, after several years, I was feeling bored and itching for change – a true enneagram 7. So, I’m excited to share the befores and after photos with you, share what key elements have revived my excitement about work, and why this project was truly a life-saver when it came to my creativity.

My first office design was a little on the masculine side with a grayscale color palette. I had dark gray curtains, black and white photos and drawings, and had a charcoal gray accent wall. While I loved it for a long time, this year of 2020, I was needing some life (as I’m sure you can relate).

I was feeling a little down and discouraged when I would go in my office and the thought of trudging through a cold winter with my gray wall was the motivation I needed to completely redesign my space. This was a look of my space before.

For my transformation, I began with choosing words I wanted my office to embody. I chose joy, fun, and calm. These words are important to me cause whenever you’re in business for several years– especially a creative business– it’s easy to get burned out, or just even bored of work and you need a fresh perspective and environment to help you through. For me, my office was the perfect place to get some motivation and excitement back into my work.

Armed with my words, I then decided on a look: I wanted my office to be feminine and cheery. I traded my charcoal accent wall for a “peekaboo coral” and my black and white accents for gold, white and pink. While before I would have worried it was “too feminine” I didn’t care at this point. I wanted it to look exactly how I wanted it to.

The process was fairly simple. Just paint on the wall, new art to decorate (which I LOVED making) rearranged the furniture, purchased a few items like new curtains, a little end table, a new pencil holder, and a little basket for my shelf and wala!

One of my favorite parts of the process was creating the art. Each piece I made and each represents something special to me. The handwritten one is a verse that I hold dear, the collage is my WHY in visual form, and each little piece is special in it’s own unique way.

If you’ve never created art for your office, you absolutely should. It’s such a wonderful way to express your creativity.

This office makeover was just what I needed to revive a little more excitement and creativity into my work.

The thing that I was reminded of during this makeover was how much I need to be creative just for me. When you have a creative business sometimes you lose what YOU want to do cause you’re always working for your clients.

But making my office over reminded me that making art just because is rich with joy. Redecorating and rearranging a room can make all the difference in your mood and outlook. And if you want to paint your office pink, go for it.

My office now feels exciting, beautiful, fresh, and fun – just like I hoped. I love walking into my office and told my husband how I felt like such a boss behind my desk.

You have the power over your environment to make it exactly how you want in a way that it brings you joy, so go for it!

I hope you’ll revive your own office space – just a little. Maybe you can do something small like get a new mouse pad, or maybe you can do something more drastic like a new desk or fresh paint on the wall.

Whatever way you choose, make your office a place that inspires creativity, somewhere you’re excited to work in, and a place that gives you life and ideas!

I would love to hear what you think of my office makeover!
