When I started my business, I thought I had it all figured out. I had soaked up all the free content that was out there like a sponge. I just knew my business would take off so I could quit my day job and live the dream of working at home in my sweat pants.
The truth is, while I had a lot of "sidelines" skill, I had no actual real "in the field" experience and that is where a lot of people, myself included, can get stuck.
So today I'm sharing my observations on free content, why it can be detrimental to your budding business and how to deal with the overwhelm of content overload.
This past week I felt like a failure.
Back in February I set a goal for myself that I would quit my day job on a certain day, do or die! Well, that day came and went this past Friday and here I am at work today, Monday morning with coffee in hand, just like normal.
So what happened? Well, several things, but mainly, it's the fact that my business isn't producing enough income to make a smooth transition. While I'm disappointed, I'm more motivated than ever to tackle this hurdle and reach my goals.
Dealing with disappointment, failure, and persistence are all part of the entrepreneurial ride and they're emotions I've had to live with since I started by business about 15 months ago.
Along with an optimistic outlook and determination, I've complied a list of qualities that are vitally important to succeeding in your business when the going gets tough.

The Side Hustle Journals
This is me sharing my journey from being a side-hustler
to a full time business owner. Let's do this together!
A lot of the creatives in our industry champion grace as a tagline but it's harder to put into practice than you would think. For me anyway.
Do you feel "behind"? Or like you should be further along than you are now... or that your following should be bigger? Or your email list should have more engagement... ?
If you feel any of those things, you're not alone. I think it's natural to want to improve but when you're constantly down on yourself with where you're at, maybe things need to change. And that's where I find myself.
Business owners in general have a lot on their plates, but being a side-hustler the balancing act is even more difficult.
I have now maintained my day job and side-hustle for about a year and a half and I've realized that when I work non-stop with no days off, just grinding it out, the faster I can burn out.
So how can you balance it all and still make big strides in your business?
A lot of the creative entrepreneurs out there are side-hustling, myself included. Where, after we get home from the 9-5 we work on our side-hustle/business/passion project.
While it's easy to look over at our friends who are full-time for themselves and think, "sure would be nice," the truth of the matter is, it won't be better, it would just be different.
It's SO easy to look over and have "the grass is always greener" mentality, when in reality, your situation is primarily affected by your emotions associated with that thing. Any day-job or even your own business can be as wonderful or as miserable as you make it out to be.
So today I have compiled a list of ways to be thankful for your full-time job and also some ways to use it to your advantage.
