3 Reasons Why Fall is the Best Time to Refresh Your Website

Have you noticed that one year in an online business is like three years in the outside world? It’s true! If you’re new to the online space that may come as a surprise. But if you’ve been here awhile you’re probably nodding along with me. Things move quickly online and that’s why a year can feel like a reeeaaalllllyyy long time. And if you’re in the online business world for more than five years you can feel ancient! (I know I do! Especially talking about how blogging used to be back in 2016).

Knowing that business moves quickly, ideas come and go, and you can create and launch a program within a matter of months, it’s important that your website keeps up with all the changes in your business. And while we’re at it, I’m just gonna say it: it’s not enough that you have a website, you need a good, well-designed website so it can actually work FOR you.

If you’re not paying attention to keeping up with your portfolio, testimonials, or even services (not to mention trends) it can be a detriment to your growth and it won’t help people who may need your services the most.

That’s why as online business owners it’s so beneficial to review your own website and services yearly (if not bi-annually). And you wanna know the best time to review and refresh your website? I believe the fall, and here are 3 reasons why:

1. Embrace slow seasons by updating your online presence

Taking on a website refresh, or a website overhaul is a lot of work. And depending on your industry, fall and winter can be a slow season which is why (for many of us) fall is the best time to give your website a refresh.

As inquiries slow, and people are getting ready for the holidays you could be working hard to make sure your website is up to par with how your business has grown over the last year.

A few great pages on your site to review are:

  • Your Portfolio

  • Services

  • Testimonials

  • Features, Awards, and Publications

  • Contact

evolved, make sure that’s reflected on your Services page. Have you acquired a bunch of new testimonials? Insert them all over your site (I recommend the Home page and Services page). Were you featured on some podcasts or were you published? Share it!

Giving your website a refresh is necessary to make sure your ideal clients can see all you’ve been up to and how they can benefit from your services.

2. Get ready for the new year

Have you ever gone into the new year feeling behind or like you’re not ready? It’s the worst! Why not take some time to make sure everything is updated, refreshed, and ready to go so you can turn over the calendar year with new energy and excitement rather than dread and worry.

That’s another reason giving your website an update for fall is a great time. You can enter the new year feeling like your business is updated, polished, and you’re ready to take on your biggest goals. It’s always wonderful when you can go into the new year feeling invigorated AND up-to-date - not to mention giving your potential clients that energy too!

3. Write off the expense of rebranding or refreshing your website

Another great reason for rebranding or refreshing your website in the fall is you can write off this expense for taxes for the calendar year. Everyone is always looking to save money and this is a terrific way to both save money and use it to help your small business grow even more.

Giving your website a refresh is necessary to make sure your ideal clients can see all you’ve been up to and how they can benefit from your services.

Maybe you’re thinking, ‘yeah I definitely need to refresh my website, but the idea has me breaking out into hives. Where do I even start?’ Girl, I’ve got you covered!

There are 2 ways I offer rebranding and website refreshes:

My Website Virtuoso Experience and Dedicated Design Day.

The Website Virtuoso Experience is a top to bottom makeover for your website. I design your site in Squarespace 7.1 (the newest version of Squarespace) and we create a modern, beautiful, customer-centric website so it’s effective in helping you reach your biggest goals and grow your business. This website makeover includes refreshing your brand photos, increasing your SEO, and making sure your website is built for your ideal customer.

A Dedicated Design Day is my 1-day design intensive where we work together for one full business day and you walk away with completed designs at the end of the day. This is a terrific service if you’re wanting professional design at a lower price point. While a full website design isn’t possible in a Design Day, we can easily refresh 1-2 pages of your site (depending on the platform) so they’re up-to-date and beautiful!
